RoboWar

The RoboWar Hindquaters on sourceforge.

You want to install RoboWar 5 on your new Mac? Click here!

RoboWar runs fine with MacOS X. The installation procedure is a little bit complicated, but we're working on it.

What is MacRoboWar?

RoboWar is freeware game where you match your brains in a robot-bashing contest. In this game you program (in an easy laguage!), create cool animations, sounds, and figure out new ways to crush other robots.

You can see a screenshot here.

What's happening with it?

OK, so it has been a long, long time, but in the interest of allowing people to support RoboWar, we now have a sourceforge project! So if you are intesrested please signup with sourcefore and/or email us.

Mac OS X: There is a Carbonised version of RoboWar in progress thanks to Sam Rushing. More news, and download information soon.

Mac: There is the old Mac version 4.5.2, the source is already online at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/robowar/.
Although, at the time of writing, it's in tar.gz format, which has lost the resource fork, so you'd be best getting it from http://robowar.sourceforge.net/files/RW4.5.2source.hqx

Windows: Now, there's a Windows version of RoboWar!! It has full Mac compatibility. In other words, you can run all your old Mac robots on Windows! Click here to go to the Windows RoboWar web page or download it directly here!. Here's also some screenshots: Screenshot 1 - Screenshot 2 - Screenshot 3.

Java: There is a Java version that Lucas did some work on ages ago - this will be uploaded shortley.

There is also some separate work on RoboWar for windows (called RoboWarII). See: http://www.geocities.com/robowar2/.

Files

(please note that we'll be moving this to the proper sourceforge area sometime - we are currently having issues with this due to the old Mac sit and hqx formats. These should really not be hosted here - sorry sourcefore people! - we'll fix it soon!)

Versions of RoboWar:

Some extra tools:

  • RoboWarConverter.sit.hqx - A "Carbon" Mac application to convert classic robot files into the new cross-platform RWXML format. Drag your bots or even folders of bots onto the app's icon to convert several at a time. (Updated 2004-12-23)
  • rwcompiler1.0.sit.hqx - a BBEdit RoboTalk-compiler plugin.
  • RWasm11_Folder.sit.hqx - A RoboWar assembler, I guess.

The official tournament robots:

  • Theory of Robot Design
The popular, influential and famous Theory of Robot Design by Eric Foley has been reuploaded to SourceForge! There's some updates to it too. Win versions of most of the sample robots are also available. Still, there's a lot of things missing in it =(. Contribution is welcome!
  • Paul Hansen's RoboWar Central
Features an excellent and thorough tutorial by RoboMaster Paul Hansen. Also provided is an archive of Code Scraps, such as full search loops, that you can use for your robots.
  • Theo's Robowar Page
Download of the original version of RoboWar (Mac only) and the archives of the Official RoboWar Tournament. This site also hosts the most recent tournaments and Prf+noff's version of RoboWar (a modified version of 4.5.2).
  • Optimizing Robots in RoboWar
Read how to optimize your robot by RoboMaster Tom Cornell. Very useful in you would like to take that step from RoboWarrior to RoboMaster. Also contains links to other similar sites.
  • Fishman's RoboWar site
Is an old, but nice site for RoboWar by the Abbott tribe.
  • Some old bits and pieces of Lucas' to do with RoboWar
This includes some robots, and some RoboWar tools.
  • A RoboWar archive site
By Austin Barton, most of the download links are broken, but he has a nice tutorial.
  • RoboWar.8m.com
Seems to be a little under construction still. Has some useful code bits, however.
